About St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
Reformed worship and warm fellowship on Chattanooga's North Shore
Our story
St. Andrew’s began in 1952, when a handful of families started meeting for worship in a storefront on Chattanooga’s North Shore. They built the little wooden chapel with its tall steeple on Chestnut Ridge Road in 1961, and in 1973 the congregation voted to join the newly formed Presbyterian Church in America. Today we are about 260 people: college students and retirees, young families and longtime neighbors.
What we believe
We are a Reformed and evangelical church. We believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, the only rule for faith and life, and we hold the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms as faithful summaries of its teaching.
- God. There is one God, eternally existing as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- Grace. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and not by anything we do.
- Jesus Christ. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He lived the life we could not live, died in our place, rose bodily from the dead and will return in glory.
- The sacraments. Christ gave His church two sacraments: baptism, for believers and their children, and the Lord’s Supper.
How we are led
St. Andrew’s is governed by a session of elders elected by the congregation: our pastors, who serve as teaching elders, and ruling elders from among the members. Our deacons lead the church’s ministry of mercy and practical care. We belong to a regional presbytery and the PCA’s General Assembly, so no congregation stands alone.
What to expect on a Sunday
Worship follows a simple order: a call to worship, a prayer of confession and assurance of pardon, hymns with organ and piano, Scripture readings and a sermon. We share the Lord’s Supper on the second and fourth Sundays of the month; all baptized believers who belong to a Bible-believing church are welcome at the table.
A staffed nursery cares for infants through age three during both services, and worship bags are available for older children. Sunday School for all ages meets at 10:15 AM. Park in the lot behind the building; the accessible entrance is on the east side.
